With award season for the food industry pretty much wrapped up, it's nice to go out with a bang, with perhaps the highest profile guide and awards for the season: The Good Food Guide.
NSW's Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide is in its 28th edition this year. A culmination of hundreds of meals, thousands upon thousands of words, many deliberations and many more full stomachs, it's no mean feat putting together a guide like this, so if you like eating out, this is one handy tome for the coffee table.
This year, with the changes in the publishing industry, it's especially important to support the amazing work some of the best food writers in this town. Here are a couple of award winners from Monday worth checking out, and for those of you who didn't win a copy of the 2013 Good Food Guide by tuning into FBi Radio for my segment this week, copies are available for just $10 with your Sydney Morning Herald (usually $24.95).
Best Bar with Food - 121 BC
Awarded to a bar with an amazing combination of great food and wine, 121 BC certainly has that in spades. 121 BC is a perfect place to pull up a stool at the bar, order a glass of what's good on the day and enjoy a salumi plate including salsiccia sarda (a Sardinian sausage), chargrilled mortadella, prosciutto San Daniele, bresaola, truffled salami and more, all perfect with one of several amazing bottles of Italian vino on offer.

BYO Restaurant of the Year - Il Baretto
A Surry Hills institution, known for its unwavering menu of classics including duck ragu with papardelle and garlicy spaghetti vongole, peppered with parsley, Il Baretto is still going strong after all these years. This award goes to a restaurant where bringing your own wine is welcomed (and only $3 pp for corkage), it's the perfect inner city suburban restaurant to duck into during the week with your favourite drop and feel right at home.
496 Bourke Street Surry Hills NSW 2010
Diner's Choice Award - Tetsuya's
A couple of awards this year went to main stayers in the food industry - restaurants that have stood the test of time, trend and taste for many a year. Even if you aren't a foodie, you know what Tetsuya's is and what it represents. A classic space with a classic menu never goes out of style and this year's award proves that. Worth the splash out if you've never done it.
